Our back yard

Herberton Historical Village, Pioneer Day!

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to head up the tablelands to check out  "Pioneer day" at Herberton Historical Village. The sun was shining and the sky an amazing shade of blue as we time warped back to the 1880s.
The village was alive with people in period costume reenacting days bygone. We strolled down the main street of fabulously preserved buildings and soaked up the history and culture provided. The township was complete with a chemist, school, bank, grocer's, printers, frock salon, toy shop and jail; just to name a few.  Every building was a museum with relics long past their use by date. Passionate folk were there to enlighten us with their wealth of information and demonstrate their skills such as black smithing, tin panning, spinning, craft and wood chopping.
Doyles bush band could be heard belting out merry tunes through out the village. Thanks guys for the amazing entertainment.Scones and tea were on offer at the  Bakerville tearooms along with lots of other home cooked delights and across the bridge at the pioneer camp you could partake in good old fashioned damper and billy tea.

There was something to be had for everyone; food, music, pony rides, free sausage sizzle as well as an exceptional historical experience.
